Jaishankar Reviews Ties
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reinforced India’s diplomatic momentum in the United States during a high-level New York visit.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar chaired a conference of Indian Consul Generals in the United States, bringing together senior diplomats from missions across the country to review the trajectory of India–US bilateral cooperation and engagement with the Indian diaspora. The meeting, held in New York in November, saw participation from senior officials of the Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C., and the consulates in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, Boston, Los Angeles and Seattle.
“Reviewed our bilateral ties and support for diaspora activities,” Jaishankar posted on X, acknowledging the commitment of India’s diplomatic teams to strengthening the India–US partnership. Indian Ambassador to the United States Vinay Kwatra also attended the meeting.
Dialogue at the United Nations
During the visit, Jaishankar met UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for a wide-ranging conversation on global developments and the state of multilateralism. After their discussion at UN headquarters, he wrote on X that he valued Guterres’ assessment of the current global order and appreciated his insights on key regional hotspots.
This New York stop came immediately after Jaishankar wrapped up his Canada trip, where he attended the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and met several counterparts, including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Strengthening India–US Engagement
Reflecting on his meeting with Rubio, Jaishankar noted their discussion covered trade, supply chains, and global flashpoints—from the Ukraine conflict to the Indo-Pacific. The meeting came days after US President Donald Trump signalled that the United States and India were nearing a trade agreement, calling it “a fair deal” and suggesting both sides were “pretty close” to finalising it.
