Bera Backs Partnership

Congressman Ami Bera has reaffirmed that bipartisan support for stronger India-US relations remains firmly intact despite policy disagreements over trade and immigration.

Indian-American Congressman Ami Bera has reiterated that the long-term strategic foundations of the India-US relationship remain stable and resilient despite periodic tensions over tariffs, immigration and trade policy. Speaking at the Capitol Hill Summit 2026 organised by the US-India Friendship Council, Bera described India as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies and an increasingly important geopolitical partner for the United States in the Indo-Pacific region.

Bera stressed that bipartisan support for India has remained consistent across successive American administrations, from Bill Clinton and George W. Bush to Barack Obama, Donald Trump and Joe Biden. He noted that defence and intelligence cooperation between the two democracies has continued to deepen steadily over the past three decades.

The Congressman also highlighted emerging sectors of collaboration including artificial intelligence, semiconductors and critical mineral supply chains. According to him, Indian-American professionals and entrepreneurs continue to play a major role in driving innovation and technology leadership within the United States.

While acknowledging concerns over immigration and trade disputes, Bera strongly defended the contribution of Indian students and professionals in America, describing Indian-Americans as one of the country’s most educated and successful immigrant communities. He also suggested that India could play an important diplomatic role in facilitating dialogue around the Russia-Ukraine conflict because of its longstanding relationship with Moscow.
