Sikhs Honoured Globally
Sikh community leaders, lawmakers and philanthropists were recognised in Washington for contributions to public service, humanitarian work and democratic representation.
Sikhs of America honoured several prominent Sikh personalities during its annual Vaisakhi Gala Dinner in Washington, celebrating achievements across politics, philanthropy, business and community leadership. The event recognised Sikh lawmakers, entrepreneurs and humanitarian figures from the United States, Britain and Pakistan for their contributions to public life and social service.
Among those honoured were Virginia Delegate JJ Singh, British MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, entrepreneur Baldev Singh Kang, philanthropist Sardar Bahadur Singh and Pakistan Punjab Minister Ramesh Singh Arora. Organisers said the awards aimed to highlight Sikh contributions within mainstream global society while inspiring younger generations to remain connected to Sikh identity and values.
JJ Singh, who became the first turbaned Sikh to serve in a state legislature in American history, reflected on the importance of Sikh principles such as service, discipline and responsibility in shaping his political journey. He also referred to legislation he supported in Virginia relating to public safety, education and protection of places of worship.
The event additionally highlighted humanitarian initiatives ranging from medical support and educational outreach to heritage preservation and minority representation. Organisers described the gathering as an important platform for celebrating Sikh achievements while reinforcing the values of inclusion, democratic participation and community engagement.
