Incidentally India and France are in the driver’s seat when it comes to steering the ISA. The two nations occupy the positions of President and Co-President respectively in the Standing Committee of the ISA. At the first ISA meet in New Delhi that was co-hosted by France and India, French President Emmanuel Macron pledged hundreds of millions of dollars for solar projects in developing and sunshine-rich countries that would facilitate the harnessing of solar energy at affordable costs. Mr Modi had said that India pledged to fulfill at least 40 percent of its energy requirements from renewable sources by 2030, for which ISA nations would need to “increase solar in our energy mix.” This would, undoubtedly, reduce in a very significant way, the earth’s carbon footprint.
