Modi, Ramgoolam Reconnect
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation on June 24 with his Mauritian counterpart, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, where the two leaders discussed avenues to further deepen the India-Mauritius Enhanced Strategic Partnership.
“Pleased to speak with my friend, Prime Minister Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam. We exchanged views on further strengthening India-Mauritius Enhanced Strategic Partnership and regional developments. Mauritius remains a key partner in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and our Neighbourhood First policy,” PM Modi posted on X following the call.
During their exchange, the leaders underscored the enduring and unique relationship between India and Mauritius, and reiterated their shared resolve to advance the multifaceted strategic partnership. They reviewed cooperation across several vital sectors, including development initiatives, capacity building, defence collaboration, maritime security, digital infrastructure, and people-to-people engagement.
Prime Minister Modi also acknowledged the wholehearted participation of PM Ramgoolam in the 11th International Day of Yoga, reflecting the strong cultural ties between the two countries. He reaffirmed India’s unwavering support for Mauritius’ development priorities, aligning with Vision MAHASAGAR and India’s broader Neighbourhood First framework. Modi extended a formal invitation to Prime Minister Ramgoolam to visit India at an early date. Both leaders agreed to maintain close and regular contact to sustain momentum in bilateral ties.
