HOUSING PUSH
Housing Push: Centre and States to Drive Reform
The scale of investment was underlined by Mr. Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, who said the urban sector could attract nearly ?10 lakh crore in the coming years, with housing as a central component. He pointed out that around ?30 lakh crore had already been invested in urban infrastructure over the past decade, which has kept India’s growth trajectory robust.
Reforms to strengthen RERA in multiple states are also on the cards, to ensure housing projects—especially in the affordable segment—avoid delays in registration. “The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs remains at the centre of policymakers’ focus, including the top political leadership,” he noted, calling on industry stakeholders to partner with the government to sustain momentum.
The convention also heard from Mr. Tokhan Sahu, Minister of State for Housing & Urban Affairs, who emphasised the sector’s fast growth under Prime Minister Modi, and Mr. Sudhansh Pant, Chief Secretary of Rajasthan, who detailed major state-level infrastructure projects worth nearly ?25,000 crore already grounded.
NAREDCO leaders, including President G. Hari Babu, Chairman Emeritus Mr. Praveen Jain, and Joint Secretary, MoHUA, Mr. Kuldip Narayan, welcomed the announcements. Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani, Chairman, NAREDCO, noted that affordable housing and infrastructure remain the twin engines of India’s development journey towards 2047.
