Argentina Backs India
Argentine Ambassador Mariano Caucino said Argentina and South America can contribute decisively to India’s ambition of becoming a fully developed nation by 2047, with mining, energy, agriculture and trade offering significant scope for deeper cooperation.
NEW DELHI: Argentina can contribute decisively to India’s ambition of becoming a fully developed nation by 2047, Argentine Ambassador to India H.E. Mariano Caucino said while speaking at O P Jindal Global University on August 15.
Invited as chief guest for the university’s Independence Day celebrations, Ambassador Caucino highlighted the growing complementarities between India and Argentina, particularly in agriculture, food production, mining and energy. He noted that Argentina has emerged as India’s largest provider of edible oils, attributing this position to his country’s efficiency in agriculture and food production.
“Mining and energy are two fields in which we are destined to work together,” Caucino said, adding that Argentina and South America could contribute further to India’s development ambitions.
The Ambassador pointed to the growing importance of India and the wider Indo-Pacific amid an increasingly unpredictable global environment. He noted that India’s rapid economic growth and demographic scale have placed it among the world’s most important countries, attracting increasing global attention.

Ambassador Caucino also noted that India has become Argentina’s sixth-largest trading partner, reflecting the expansion of bilateral commerce and cooperation. Despite the geographical distance between the two countries, he said, Argentina and India are “destined to continue collaborating for our mutual benefit”.
He also described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s July 2025 visit to Argentina as a milestone in the 75-year relationship between the two countries.
