“Ties with India have been strengthened considerably”

H.E. Mr Andrei Rzheussky, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to India speaks to India Empire on the eve of the National Holiday of Belarus ...

Belarus and India have the same approaches to practical nature of research and innovation focusing on applied results of science. Meetings of the Joint Belarusian and Indian Commission for Cooperation in Science and Technology are held regularly. A list of research projects for joint implementation in 2019-2020 has been agreed. Cultural ties are also developing. Days of Culture of Belarus in India were held in January 2017. In 2020, the Days of Indian Culture in the Republic of Belarus will take place.

Belarusian universities providing a qualitative education at reasonable cost are attractive for studies of Indian citizens. The number of Indian citizens studying in Belarusian higher education institutions is increasing. Direct contacts between universities of Belarus and India are continuously expanding.

How about Belarus as a tourist destination from India? Is there an increase in traffic, and also are there possibilities for investments in the tourism sector?

The simplification of visa regime by the Republic of Belarus results in the expansion of humanitarian contacts. An annual increase in the number of Indian citizens visiting Belarusis noted. India, in turn, is an attractive tourist destination for the Belarusians. Work is underway to open a Tourist Center in India. The opening of direct flights between Belarus and India would contribute to the expansion of tourist exchanges. Recently, the study of this issue has intensified. In August 2019, a group of 13 Indian children and two accompanying persons will rest and improve their health in the Belarusian camp “Zubrenok” at the expense of the Belarusian side.
